Racine County Fair

I guess Racine County was the place to be for us in July.
We drove down to Union Grove for the Racine County Fair.
The fairgrounds were the best we have been to, the exhibits were good,
the critters were fun to look at, and the corn was tasty.

Lots of old tractors, and Julie tried to win me a prize.

South Shore Frolics

This year the Frolics almost weren't due to lack of sponsorship. They have always bee a big event on the south side for years and years. Thankfully Braeger Chevrolet stepped up and saved the day.
Another rowdy weekend in Bay View, including a trip to our garage roof to try to see the fireworks from home. Saw 'em better from neighbor Daves front stoop, so that was where we ended up.

Independence Day in Racine

This years 4th of July roadtrip was to see the much touted Racine celebration. It lasted 4 hours with the "pre-parade parade" for sponsors.

Crowds were out along the route which spanned well over a mile.

Yet one didn't feel crowded. it was fun, patriotic, and again we got the feel for how another community celebrates the 4th.

It has a unifying effect, because although there are differences, we find that no matter where, we all celebrate our Independence, and it is a constant from coast to coast.
I also added to my collection of old building signage. I love this stuff as well as old neon. If you find something cool, please take a shot and send it off. Old silo advertising is really neat too. Look at this one for Black Jack Gum, and Dr. Giffens diptheria cure. Remember you can click a pic to enlarge.

VW Car Club Show

We went to the local VW club meet, and Julie was directed into the exhibitors lot. She entered her car in the show, it was dirty and we had been using it quite nicely, so it wasn't spit and polished or anything. it was a kick, and for a good cause. And she joined the club.

Summer 2008 end of school getaway

We started summer with a ride through Cedarburg and points north stopping at the last covered bridge in Wisconsin. Turned out that Julie had never been there so it made it extra fun for me. We also found a great place for burgers at the Five Corners intersection called Wayne's with carhops on skates, and a very very tasty sandwich. Thru Sheboygan Falls , the water still very high as you can see.We got as far as Shawano before overnighting and heading back.
